Everywhere he goes, all-star baseball player Curtis Granderson makes an impact both on and off the field. Danielle Michaud caught up with the Blue Jay today and tells us how he’s giving back to Toronto kids.
TORONTO – This summer, Toronto Blue Jays’ All Star Outfielder Curtis Granderson and his Grand Kids Foundation are teaming up with Jays Care’s Rookie League to provide engaging summer activities, athletic training and learning opportunities to 1200+ residents of Toronto Community Housing Corp.
The program kicked off with a counselor training meet-and-greet, where Curtis taught the young adults how to be strong leaders, and how to teach leadership skills to the children they’ll be mentoring this summer.
For the first day of camp on July 5, Curtis invited the children to participate in his annual New Balance Fitness Challenge – a pop-up fitness circuit that teaches kids the fun of staying active alongside professional athletes. The event was part of an international series founded in partnership with Curtis and New Balance. Learn more at NBFitnessChallenge.com.
Continuing on for seven weeks this summer, campers will participate in six more weekly Grand Kids Academy challenges designed to teach leadership skills, including fun nutrition and science activities. The program will conclude with a back to school gift for each camper from the Grand Kids Academy – backpacks loaded with school supplies – and an overnight retreat for 150 campers who demonstrate excellent leadership skills at camp.
